Antique Deer or Stag Hoof Letter Opener with Horn Blade marked "Staubbach" from
A handsome antique for the discerning collector that still can be used today. This is the type of souvenir that tourists would have bought over 100 years ago. This letter opener has engraved on its blade ; "STAUBBACH". Research has shown that it is a quaint and scenic town in Switzerland featuring a waterfall. This would have been a very expensive item in its time. The blade is constructed from horn, the center piece holding both the blade and foot together is bakelite.
The stag foot is finished with ivory at the bottom. This piece dates to circa 1900 and therefore it is dated before June of 1947, and can be bought and sold under the 1989 Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species or CITES
